Overview

Metabolon, headquartered in Research Triangle Park, NC, is a diagnostic products and services company offering the industry’s leading biochemical profiling platform. Due to our rapidly growing services business, Metabolon is seeking an experience Sample and Logistics Coordinator to work within the Sample Management group as an integral member of our Global Metabolomics Services team.  

 

The Sample Logistics and Inventory Coordinator will be responsible for daily sample and raw materials management and associated inventory controls.  Specific activities will include but not be limited to receipt and proper labeling of incoming materials, accurate inventory of samples and materials, and reconciliation with shipping manifests and sales orders, proper storage of materials and management of the associated inventories.  This individual will also provide support for kit assembly and overall shipping and receiving logistics for both incoming and outgoing products and biological materials.  

 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to contribute as a team player in high throughput regulated environment, will possess a strong background in specimen handling and biorepository operations and will also be skilled in purchasing and inventory controls.  Additionally, this individual will be comfortable contributing to continuous improvement initiatives as required. 

Responsibilities

  • Examine and report on incoming material to verify conformance to expected shipping conditions
  • Inventory samples for verification against Client provided manifest, and coordinate resolution of incomplete orders or discrepant information
  • Label materials and order receiving documentation as appropriate to provide the necessary tracking and preserve chain of custody. 
  • Perform accurate entry of receiving data into various laboratory databases such LIMS.
  • Manage sample disposition process to include archival inventory, as well as sample destruction and/or return, as required
  • Participate in inbound and outbound logistics for all materials which may include cross-functional coordination with the Client Success and/or external vendors.
  • Execute on build and supply requests for Customer Success collection kits
  • Communicate with vendors as necessary to determine availability of materials to ensure consistent supply chain of critical inventory items
  • Generate purchase requests and purchase orders as requested by the laboratory staff
  • Coordinate with multiple groups within the organization, to include but not be limited to Quality Assurance, Finance, and production laboratories to communicate materials related updates and/or issues
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Read, understand, and execute all SOPs related to duties performed
  • Ensure compliance to all quality and regulatory standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.  Associates Degree or higher preferred
  • 2 to 4 years of industry experience in shipping logistics / sample management role
    1. Experience in a production laboratory or biorepository setting handling large sample numbers is preferred
    2. Knowledge of supply chain, inventory management, purchasing controls, and vendor management in a regulated environment or logistics in a similar environment is preferred
  • Experience with international shipping logistics to include
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Data entry experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and/or Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
  • Experience with financial tracking software (ERPs, PeopleSoft, ProcureDesk, etc.) preferred.
  • Strong communication skills appropriate for internal and external relationship management and established competency in cross-functional coordination of information.
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work as both an independent contributor but also as a collaborative team player in a dynamic environment
  • Possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of issues in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
