Metabolon is seeking a hands-on Manager, Software Development to both lead and actively contribute to the development of innovative solutions. Our software development is central to delivering data and insights that address some of the toughest challenges in life sciences, ultimately improving health outcomes. As we expand globally, we need leaders who are equally passionate about managing teams as they are about rolling up their sleeves and diving into code when needed. This hybrid role will be based in RTP, NC.

Responsibilities

  • Actively lead and mentor a team of engineers while also contributing to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software solutions.
  • Balance leadership responsibilities with hands-on technical work, ensuring that you remain deeply connected to the challenges and progress of your team.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Operations, and Commercial teams to ensure software development aligns with broader business goals.
  • Drive the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and client-facing software, participating in code reviews and guiding technical decisions where necessary.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement, regularly providing feedback and coaching to your team.
  • Engage in active problem-solving and technical troubleshooting, stepping in to resolve issues and unblock your team when needed.
  • Manage team operations, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and compliance with company policies.
  • Contribute to company-wide technology strategy, working closely with senior management and other technical leaders to drive innovation.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field preferred; relevant experience may substitute for formal education, but a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 5+ years of full-stack software development experience.
  • 3+ years of experience managing software engineering teams.
  • Proficiency in .NET, AWS (including essential services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, SQS, and SNS), APIs, and microservices. We value a strong foundation in these or comparable technologies, but above all, a passion for learning and the ability to adapt.
  • Proven ability to balance managerial responsibilities with hands-on technical contributions.

Bonus Experience:

  • Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) support and development, particularly with LabVantage.
  • Familiarity with regulated industries such as biotech or pharma.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and bioinformatics technologies.
