Senior Research Scientist

Metabolon is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Research Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will apply your expertise in LC-MS methodologies and biochemical research to design and execute innovative studies. Your work will focus on advancing programs from concept through clinical proof-of-mechanism by developing targeted assays that explore pathway mechanisms, biochemical processes, and target engagement strategies. You will lead research efforts to identify new technologies, optimize assay performance, and translate discoveries into development candidates. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in LC-MS applications, a deep understanding of mechanism of action studies, and a track record of driving programs from early discovery through candidate nomination. This is an exempt position working on-site at our RTP facility Monday through Friday. 

• Develop, optimize, and validate LC-MS methods for small molecule metabolites in support of metabolomics-driven research.
• Perform sample preparation and conduct LC-MS analyses on client and internal samples using qualified methods.
• Assist in troubleshooting equipment and resolving technical lab challenges.
• Write and review scientific reports with a focus on method performance, accuracy, and interpretation.
• Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot analytical equipment regularly.
• Support the continuous improvement of technical processes by evaluating metrics, generating reports, and updating SOPs as needed.
• Stay updated on scientific advancements relevant to quantitative LC-MS and contribute to knowledge sharing within the company.
• Represent the company by publishing research and presenting at conferences.
• Provide informal mentorship and guidance to junior staff.
• Manage smaller, individual projects independently and collaborate on larger team efforts.
• Follow all safety, chemical, and biological hazard protocols to ensure a safe working environment.

• BS/BA in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field with 5-7 years of relevant experience, or M.S. (3+ years), or PhD (1+ year) preferred.
• Solid experience with LC-MS technologies, particularly targeted quantitation and method development.
• Ability to troubleshoot LC-MS systems and perform method development with moderate guidance.
• Familiarity with GCP and M10 Bioanalytical Method Validation guidance preferred but not required.
• Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to manage individual projects and collaborate effectively with teams.
