Overview

Metabolon is seeking an experienced and driven Principal Research Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will apply your expertise in LC-MS methodologies and biochemical research to design and execute innovative studies. Your work will focus on advancing programs from concept through clinical proof-of-mechanism by developing targeted assays that explore pathway mechanisms, biochemical processes, and target engagement strategies. You will lead research efforts to identify new technologies, optimize assay performance, and translate discoveries into development candidates. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in LC-MS applications, a deep understanding of mechanism of action studies, and a track record of driving programs from early discovery through candidate nomination. This is an exempt position working on-site at our RTP facility Monday through Friday. 

Responsibilities

  • Development and validation of absolute quantitative LC-MS methods for small molecule metabolites in a regulated environment in support of metabolomics-driven tests
  • Analysis of client samples using validated/qualified bioanalytical methodology
  • Develop and perform sample preparation techniques for LC-MS analysis
  • Write and review reports for scientific accuracy and content. Ensure reports include pertinent information for method performance characterization, interpretation and be available for consultation concerning rendered services.
  • LC-MS operation and troubleshooting, serving as technical expert for existing LC-MS methods
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical laboratory issues
  • Maintenance and calibration of analytical equipment
  • Support continual improvement of quality processes by providing scientific input into technical processes, evaluating metrics, and generating or revising SOPs when necessary
  • Remain current with relevant scientific advancements, competitive landscape, and new technologies, relevant to quantitative LC-MS method development
  • Publish in scientific journals and present posters/talks at scientific meetings in representation of the company
  • This role may include supervisory duties, including participating in the hiring and training of junior staff; as well as providing work direction and problem-solving assistance to junior scientists
  • Independently lead the direction of individual projects
  • Follow all safety and biohazard processes to ensure that the environment for employees and the public is safe from physical, chemical, and biological hazards
  • Support and assist with other R&D or operational needs as required

Qualifications

  • Minimum BS or BA degree in Chemistry or Biology with 10+ years relevant experience, M.S (5+ yrs) or PhD in Biology or Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry (3+ yrs) preferred
  • Extensive experience with mass spectrometry technology, particularly with LC-MS targeted, absolute quantitation, assay method development and LC-MS/MS interpretation
  • Ability to perform LC-MS method development independently with limited guidance
  • Experience in Method Development and Validation following GCP and M10 Bioanalytical Method Validation Guidance strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of good decision-making, attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
